I AM STRUGGLING WITH READING ; VOLUME 1
Dear Mum & Dad,
1.
I sometimes do not see words clearly when in class even
after my teacher moved me to sit in front, closer to the board, twice in the
term, I still struggle to see clearly. I struggle to see words when reading my
books as well.
2.
I have issues reading words quickly together so that
there is a flow(the teacher calls that fluency). This started when I was in
Nursery. You know those schools I attended then didn't teach me about letter
sounds and how to string them together; the teacher calls that, ehmmmm…. yes! blending, that's the word. I wish I could attend a very good Nursery school all
over again but I'll be too big in a Nursery class I'm almost 9 years old.
3.
I do not get excited about reading at all. No matter
how exciting the content. I wonder how I will do well in my studies this term.
Remember I want to be a Nurse or Astronaut. Can I achieve these if I can't
read?
4.
I hear my friends say that their parents read to them
before bedtime every day. The last time you did that was when I was five years
old, that is, about four years ago. When will I enjoy the same experience?
5.
I hear Tobi say every time in class that his parents
buy him a book every month. He brings them to school; I sometimes wish I could have some books too.
6.
I see parents of my peers come on Open Days. You know
what? Sometimes during pick up, parents come to see the teacher. I overheard a
discussion once when Busola's Dad asked how he could help her read better. Do
you know that Busola reads very well now? I think the teacher told him how to
help. Most times, I can not help but wonder when my parents will attend Open
Days or at least give me a surprise pick up after the close of the school day.
7.
I think that if I have some time to practice reading
with a tutor and you Dear Mum and Dad, I will begin to read and build my
comprehension skills quickly in no time.
How do I begin to read quickly?
How do I cope with my
studies? 😢
Please help, help, help me 😢😢😢
